Homestyle Kentucky Fried Chicken and mashed potatoes with Chicken Gravy. What's better than that?

Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy were Sunday dinner staples when I was younger. Now that I know what’s involved, I wonder how Mom managed such a delicious meal amid the mess of frying chicken. This issue’s Recipe Box has you covered on fried chicken, among other things.

January/February 2011 Recipe Box Recipes:
Kentucky Fried Chicken
Colonel Sanders-Style Kentucky Fried Chicken
Chicken Gravy
Sausage Gravy
Plain Sausage Gravy
Fruity Oatmeal Cookies
Texas Brownies
Brownies
Banana Sour Cream Pound Cake
Banana Pudding Cake
Banana Chiffon Cake
Caribbean Banana Cake

Both of these recipes for chicken like the Colonel makes it are baked, so maybe I’ll try a new version of Mom’s Sunday dinner.

Sausage gravy is a favorite breakfast treat, and we offer a recipe or two, along with tips for the perfect gravy. Try it with Grandma’s fluffy biscuits for a heavenly breakfast.

Dessert seems to be the main topic of Recipe Box most days, and this issue is no exception. For that after-dinner treat, try Fruity Oatmeal Cookies, Texas Brownies or Banana Sour Cream Pound Cake. Everyone at the table will be glad you did.

Recipe Box is all about you and the recipes for which you’re searching. If you’re looking for a recipe, please send a note or e-mail (JTeller@Grit.com) describing the recipe,
including everything you can remember. Add your full name, your home mailing address and your phone number. We’ll print requests as space allows, then wait for fellow readers to send in recipes. Please be patient with us; this process can take a considerable amount of time.

At some point, we’ll print a recipe or two, then send the entire packet to you.

For those of you kind enough to respond to a request, please print or type legibly, include your full name, address and phone number, and if you’re responding to more than one request, please give each recipe its own sheet of paper. Your recipes can also be sent to us via e-mail.

Your response recipes are the backbone of Recipe Box, and we appreciate everyone who writes. Thank you for your help.
