Meringue is finished when it is gold-tinged.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 8 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 egg whites
- Dash of salt
Directions
- In small saucepan, combine cornstarch, 2 tablespoons sugar and water, and cook over low heat until mixture is clear. Remove from heat.
- In small bowl, whip egg whites until peaked, then slowly add heated cornstarch mixture. Beat until creamy. Add salt and remaining sugar, and beat until fluffy.
- Pile meringue on filling in pie crust, and bake at 350 F for 20 to 30 minutes, or until meringue is gold tinged.
