Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons grated orange peel
- 2 cups sifted enriched flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 to 4 tablespoons lard
- 3/4 cup milk
- Butter, melted
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions
- Combine 1/4 cup butter, orange juice, 1/2 cup sugar and orange peel; cook 2 minutes. Pour into greased 9-cup muffin tin.
- Sift flour, baking powder, salt; cut in lard. Add milk; stir until dough follows fork. Knead 15 seconds; roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
- Brush with melted butter; sprinkle with 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll as for jelly roll. Cut 1-inch slices; place cut side down over orange mixture in muffin tin. Bake in very hot oven (450°F) for 20 to 25 minutes.
