Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons grated orange peel
  • 2 cups sifted enriched flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons lard
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

  • Combine 1/4 cup butter, orange juice, 1/2 cup sugar and orange peel; cook 2 minutes. Pour into greased 9-cup muffin tin.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, salt; cut in lard. Add milk; stir until dough follows fork. Knead 15 seconds; roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
  • Brush with melted butter; sprinkle with 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll as for jelly roll. Cut 1-inch slices; place cut side down over orange mixture in muffin tin. Bake in very hot oven (450°F) for 20 to 25 minutes.
