First-of-its-Kind Mowing Deck

Valley City, Ohio – Regardless of terrain, grass type or weather conditions, the new Select Cut System, from Cub Cadet Commercial, offers an adaptable mowing deck that delivers a clean, high-quality cut for commercial cutters.

One of the major challenges in the commercial mowing business is increasing worker productivity and improving the consistency and quality of the cut. Different parts of the country have different types of grasses, terrain and soil conditions. The patent-pending Select Cut System is the first in the industry to incorporate a sloped front skirt with an adjustable leading edge to meet the needs of any commercial cutter anywhere in the country.

“Today’s lawn care professionals are seeking products that can help them increase their profitability through increased productivity and quality of service,” says Nick Cashier, vice-president of commercial product marketing. “These products must perform in highly varying turf, terrain and weather conditions. We designed the Select Cut System to address those needs, resulting in a beautiful lawn.”

The system’s front skirt controls the position of the grass as it approaches the cutting blade. Unlike standard industry decks, the front skirt is sloped, creating increased space between the deck and the cutting blade. This space allows grass to rebound after the deck passes over the lawn and before hitting the cutting blade, resulting in a cleaner cut. Additionally, the leading edge of the front skirt is adjustable, so it can be raised to further reduce grass deformation. This adjustable leading edge of the sloped front skirt makes it possible to easily cut difficult regional grasses, such as Southern Bahia.

The design also provides versatility for cutting Northern grasses. Raising and lowering the leading edge changes the vacuum strength of the deck. Because of the moisture content in Northern grass, such as bluegrass and fescue, a high vacuum is required to lift it as it enters the deck. Lowering the adjustable leading edge maximizes vacuum and lift for a more even cut.

Other key features of the SCS include a removable inner baffle, which regulates the flow of air and cut grass through the deck to improve cutting efficiency; anti-scalp wheels strategically located to reduce the chance of scalping or defacing turf; a Smart Jet Deck washout system, which provides an easy method for washing grass and debris from under the deck; and an extended blade cutting edge that offers a 50 percent increase, resulting in finer clippings and an even cut.
