Ingredients
- 1 quart whole milk, plus more as needed
- 4 eggs yolks
- 2 cups sugar, divided
- 1 heaping tablespoon flour
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 teacups cream (scant 1-1/2 cups)
Directions
- Combine 1 quart milk, egg yolks, 1 cup sugar, and flour in a large pan. Heat mixture slowly over medium-low heat until it reaches a temperature of 140 F and thickens.
- Add remaining sugar, vanilla extract, cream, and enough additional milk to fill a 1-gallon freezer-safe container to within 3 or 4 inches of the top.
- Chill mixture for several hours in refrigerator.
- Churn in an ice cream machine. Alternatively, freeze mixture in freezer-safe container until solid.
Make up a gallon of this old fashioned vanilla ice cream recipe. You can include fruit or other flavor ad-ins if desired.
