Lu-Ann Grube’s Tom and Jerry Drink Recipe
8 eggs
Pinch cream of tartar
1 pound confectioner’s sugar
Rum (such as Jacquin’s White)
Whiskey (such as Jacquin’s)
Hot water
Nutmeg
Separate eggs. (My dad always had to get fresh eggs from a farmer. He said they whip up fluffier.)
Beat egg whites until peaks are very stiff. To egg yolks, add cream of tartar, vanilla and confectioner’s sugar. Add sugar slowly. Beat until smooth.
Slowly beat egg whites into egg yolk mixture.
Blend rum and whiskey 50/50 (amounts depend on number of servings, cup size, etc.), and set aside.
Have hot water ready (like for hot tea).
Put shot of whiskey blend into cup (to taste); add hot water. Spoon creamy egg mixture on top of water. Sprinkle with nutmeg and serve.
