It’s almost 2015 and I still can’t figure out where 2014 has gone! My mom always said, the older you get, the faster the time goes. Boy, she was exactly right.
I feel like I just put the garden to bed for the year and now the 2015 garden catalogs are arriving. I get one at least every other day. I have my favorites; Seeds of Change, Seed Savers Exchange, Totally Tomatoes, Natural Gardening Company and a few others.
Spring seems so far off but I will sit by the fire and go through the catalogs, planning the garden. It’s fun to do but hard to wait for planting time!
Our weather makes me think spring, big time. On Christmas Eve, my NOAA weather radio went off first with a high-wind warning and then a severe storm advisory. The winds were expected to hit 60 mph, heavy rain and temperatures in the low 60s. Not normal for this part of Ohio in December, especially at Christmas! By the day after Christmas, the temperature was to be in the low 30s so something had to happen in the meantime.
The radio alerts continued for some time but other than high temperatures and a lot of high wind, nothing really materialized, thank goodness. It did rain but nothing out of the ordinary.
It’s two days before New Year’s and it’s sunny and cold. No snow predicted for at least five days. It’s so hard not to have a white Christmas.
We had a beautiful red sunrise this morning. I always go by the old saying, “Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning; red sky at night, sailors delight.” I’ll have to see if the sunrise prediction is accurate.
My miniature donkeys, Samson and Delilah, have been enjoying their Christmas treats. Each year, they get sweet feed balls that are “glued” together with molasses and they love them.
Problem? They get incredibly sticky lips and faces so when I hand feed them some sweet feed, I also get sticky and if I pet them, which I do a lot, my hand is almost stuck to their bodies!
But that’s all part of the fun of Christmas with my critters!
