Ingredients

  • Crust:
  • • 1-1/4 cups flour
  • • 3/4 cup oats, quick or old fashioned, uncooked
  • • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • • 1/8 teaspoon salt, optional
  • • 1/2 cup margarine or butter, melted
  • • 1 tablespoon water
  • • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Filling:
  • • 1 carton (8 ounces) sour cream, light or regular
  • • 2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • • 1/4 cup flour
  • • 4 egg whites or 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • • 4 cups peeled, thinly sliced apples
  • Topping:
  • • 1/4 cup oats, quick or old fashioned, uncooked
  • • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • • 1/4 cup flour
  • • 1/4 cup margarine or butter

Directions

  • To make crust:
  • 1. Preheat oven to 375 F.
  • 2. Combine flour, oats, brown sugar and salt. Add margarine, water and vanilla; mix well.
  • 3. Press firmly onto bottom and sides of 9-inch glass pie plate, forming 1/4-inch rim around edge.
  • 4. Bake 12 to15 minutes, or until light golden brown. Cool.
  • To make filling:
  • 1. Combine sour cream, brown sugar, flour, eggs, cinnamon and nutmeg; toss with apples.
  • 2. Arrange in crust.
  • To make topping:
  • 1. Combine oats, sugar and flour; cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • 2. Sprinkle over filling.
  • 3. Bake 50 to 60 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
  • 4. Serve warm or chilled; refrigerate leftovers.
