Ingredients
- Crust:
- • 1-1/4 cups flour
- • 3/4 cup oats, quick or old fashioned, uncooked
- • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- • 1/8 teaspoon salt, optional
- • 1/2 cup margarine or butter, melted
- • 1 tablespoon water
- • 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Filling:
- • 1 carton (8 ounces) sour cream, light or regular
- • 2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- • 1/4 cup flour
- • 4 egg whites or 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- • 4 cups peeled, thinly sliced apples
- Topping:
- • 1/4 cup oats, quick or old fashioned, uncooked
- • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- • 1/4 cup flour
- • 1/4 cup margarine or butter
Directions
- To make crust:
- 1. Preheat oven to 375 F.
- 2. Combine flour, oats, brown sugar and salt. Add margarine, water and vanilla; mix well.
- 3. Press firmly onto bottom and sides of 9-inch glass pie plate, forming 1/4-inch rim around edge.
- 4. Bake 12 to15 minutes, or until light golden brown. Cool.
- To make filling:
- 1. Combine sour cream, brown sugar, flour, eggs, cinnamon and nutmeg; toss with apples.
- 2. Arrange in crust.
- To make topping:
- 1. Combine oats, sugar and flour; cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 2. Sprinkle over filling.
- 3. Bake 50 to 60 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
- 4. Serve warm or chilled; refrigerate leftovers.
