Main Story:
Cooking with Oats

Oatmeal Bread (Bread Machine)

1 1/4 cups tepid water (room temperature)
2 tablespoons nonfat dry milk
2 tablespoons honey or 4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, cut in small pieces
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 cups bread flour
1/2 cup old-fashioned or quick oats (not instant)
2 1/2 teaspoons bread machine or fast acting yeast, or 3 teaspoons regular yeast

Load ingredients in bread machine according to manufacturer’s directions; typically wet ingredients first, followed by dry ingredients, then yeast on top. Set light crust and regular cycle.

While dough is mixing, check to ensure it is not too wet or too dry. If too wet or sticky, add 1 teaspoon flour. If too dry or crumbly, add 1 teaspoon water. Dough should be soft but not sticky. It should pull away from pan sides as paddle is kneading it.
