It’s now easier to find the answers to questions on organic production. The Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service, based in Spring Valley, Wisconsin, recently opened a toll-free Farmer Transition Hotline, (888) 551-4769, for Midwest producers looking to make the move to organics.
The hotline is staffed by Harriet Behar, a long-time organic farmer, trainer and inspector in Gays Mills, Wisconsin. “I’m here to help farmers understand the organic regulations and get through the paperwork,” says Behar, who has more than 20 years experience in the field.
“Undoubtedly we need more organic farmers, and that is why this new hotline is so important,” says Doug Nopar, communications coordinator for the service. “Be it dairy, beef, poultry, hogs, produce or livestock feed, the demand far exceeds current supply.”
