Ed’s French Onion Soup Recipe

My dad liked to make onion soup on Sundays and when we were having company. Use homemade chicken stock if possible, although canned works fine. Add two or three whole allspice to the chicken stock and let simmer for a little while to give this soup a unique flavor.

2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons olive or canola oil
4 large onions, sliced
4 to 6 cups chicken stock
½ teaspoon black pepper
Dash cayenne pepper
Dash Worcestershire sauce
Parmesan cheese to taste
French bread, stale
Gruyère or American cheese

Melt butter and oil in large frying pan. Add onion slices and cook over low heat until translucent.
