Edmond, Oklahoma, celebrates the Fourth of July for an entire week! Join in the citywide LibertyFest June 25 through July 4.
A few of the 2009 events:
? The LibertyFest Band Concert, 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 25, in front of UCO Mitchell Hall Theater, will feature a mixture of light classics, marches and patriotic music. The free one-hour concert includes a range of traditional “concert in the park music” that will appeal to all. Free watermelon and ice cream following the concert.
? The LibertyFest Rodeo, 8 p.m. Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28, at the Carl Benne Rodeo Grounds. Adults $8 and children $5.The exciting events will include bareback riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing and bull riding.
? The LibertyFest Kite Festival, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28, in Mitch Park. Free admission. On Saturday, a special night fly of lighted kites begins after sundown.
? Taste of Edmond, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28, in the Festival Market. Filling downtown with the aroma of tasty foods from various restaurants around our community, this event is a fund-raiser for LibertyFest, helping to ensure the festival’s continuation for years to come. Cost is $10 per person and children 10 and under are free. No pets allowed.
? LibertyFest Parade, starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 4, in downtown Edmond. With the theme “A Birthday Salute to America”, the parade attracts more than 50,000 people along its 1.5-mile route.
? Fireworks, starts at 10 p.m. Saturday, July 4, at UCO. Bring the entire family to witness a spectacular fireworks show. Bring a blanket or lawn chair; sit back and enjoy the show. Again please no pets or ice chests allowed.
