Benefits of Free-Range Eggs (Video)

Hank Will talks with Purina animal nutritionist Dr. Patrick Briggs about the importance of getting enough omega-3s in our diets, and how to increase the omega-3 content of your hens’ eggs.

Eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids is important for good health, and eggs from free-range chickens are often very high in omega-3s. The trick is to ensure that your chickens are getting the right foods to turn into healthy, delicious eggs for you and your family.

Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids support heart health best when they’re present in equal amounts in our diets; the typical American diet is heavy on omega-6s, so eating eggs rich in omega-3s helps to balance the ratio of these fatty acids. Flax seed is one way to add omega-3s to your chickens’ eggs, but it loses nutrition value quickly and can be tricky to feed in the right quantities. Chicken feed with omega-3 enhancement is another option for healthy hens and healthy eggs.
