While Judy thought it might be named for First Lady Bess Truman, the recipe that bears the first lady’s name doesn’t include chocolate. Other readers sent in a variety of recipes with names such as Chocolate Upside Down Pudding Cake, Double Fudge Pudding Cake, Mom’s Pudding, Hot Fudge Pudding Cake, Fudge Dessert, Brownie Pudding, Chocolate Pudding, Baked Fudge, Hot Fudge Sundae Cake, and Chocolate Lush. The recipes came from as many different sources, including the 1959 Farm Journal’s Country Cookbook, a high school cookbook, and Country magazine.
