One can’t measure the greatness of the stack submitted by 2009 ECHO Show Us Your Stack contest winners Daniel Paul and his wife, Molly MacDougall. The Henniker, New Hampshire, couple turned the somewhat tedious chore of wood stacking into a work of art.

“He (Molly’s dad, Bruce) generously delivered two cords for us, and in thanks we built him a backwoods-style ‘Arch de Triumph,’” Daniel says.

To form the arch, Daniel stacked while Molly held a scrap of steel roofing as a form.

“I had to build an arch fast, before Molly got tuckered out,” Daniel says. “It took us a few tries, Molly jumping out of the way as consecutive arches toppled. Finally one stuck, and stuck well.”

The arch stood from late June to late October on the couple’s property.

It is for such an enthusiastic attitude in a common rural American chore that Grit is happy to award a CS-530 chainsaw, courtesy of ECHO, to Daniel and Molly.
