Soak fruit in whiskey overnight in order to make The Best Fruit Cake Recipe ever!

Nelda Cronbaugh, Belle Plaine, Iowa, sends another version, saying, “I soak the fruit overnight in whiskey, and then drain it off when I’m ready to make the cake the next morning. Keep the juice on the red cherries and the pineapple. It is very rich and very delicious!”

The Best Fruit Cake Recipe

2 pounds dates
1/2 pound canned red cherries
1/2 pound canned pineapple
1 pound English walnuts
1 pound Brazil nuts
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
4 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla

Combine and mix well until all ingredients are coated with egg. Makes 2 to 3 small cakes. Bake for 2 hours or longer at 200°F.
