It has been quite some time since I posted here. I won’t bore you with the excuses. Since my last post, many changes have taken place in my homesteading life. The biggest change is that we’re going mobile.
Yes, we are embarking on a full-time RVing lifestyle. This begs the questions: How does one homestead on the road? Is it even possible? What does it mean to be homesteading on the road? I hope to answer these questions, for myself and for others who may be so inclined. We will be traveling slowly, spending extensive amounts of time in a few particular spots – my daughter’s horse ranch, my son’s grandparents’ homestead, and my dad’s urban homestead. In between, we’ll be boondocking, camping and generally living a simple life from our RV and trailer.
I will be continuing to homeschool my son, cook from scratch, make my soaps and lotions, do as many repairs and such as I can myself, and all those things that make homesteading what it is. We will not be traveling with chickens, goats or dairy cows, though that is not out of the question for the future. We will report on the ones we take care of at our main stops, however. I plan to work on container gardening on a small scale, that will fit in my trailer. I will also report on the challenges of locating farm fresh eggs, produce, meats and dairy products in various locations and situations.
We have already begun our adventure, at our first stop, the grandparents’ homestead. Here, we are working out the bugs in our RV and trailer, trying to get the grandparents to eat a bit healthier, and enjoying our dogs, cats, llamas and one of the horses we moved here from the Arizona homestead. It is extremely cold (for us), but we are making the best of it, with our cross country skis, ice skating on the frozen river, and exploring the local area.
Hope you’ll continue to enjoy Homesteading with Mrs. D.
