Indian raiders massacred the wagon train in which seven-year-old Hardy Collins and three-year-old Betty Sue Powell were a part. Everyone else was killed. Only Hardy and Betty Sue survived. After the massacre, they were left with only a horse and a knife with which to face the long battle against the wilderness, stranded on the limitless prairie.
