Include this Christmas wassail recipe at your next holiday gathering. It is sweet, spicy and comforting with its oranges, cinnamon, cider and cloves. This recipe from 1932 is easy to make and even easier to drink.

Christmas Wassail Recipe

2 cups Sugar
2 cups Water
6 whole cloves
2 sticks cinnamon
3 allspice berries
1 tablespoon chopped ginger
Juice of 5 oranges
Juice of 4 lemons
2 cups cider

Boil sugar and water together for 10 minutes to make a syrup. Add cloves, cinnamon, allspice berries and ginger. Let syrup stand, covered, in a warm place for 1 hour to infuse.

Add juices and cider to syrup. Bring quickly to boiling point. Serve at once. Yields 12 servings.
