1 package ground chicken or turkey, (about 1 1/4 pounds)
2 tablespoons bottled steak sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
4 hamburger buns, toasted
Condiments, such as onion slices, tomato slices, ketchup and mustard, optional
Prepare lightly greased grill for cooking.
In medium bowl, combine ground chicken, steak sauce, salt and pepper; mix well. Divide mixture into 8 portions and form each into a thin burger. Mound 2 tablespoons cheese on each of 4 burgers; top with second burger and pinch edges shut to seal cheese inside meat.
Place burgers at center of grill and grill, uncovered, 5 to 6 inches over medium-hot coals for 5 minutes. Turn burgers and top with remaining cheese. Move to cooler edge of grill and continue grilling for an additional 10 minutes, or until burgers are cooked through and spring back when touched.
Serve on hamburger buns with condiments. Yields 4 servings.
