Apple Pie Recipe With Oat Crust

Ingredients:

Crust:
• 1-1/4 cups flour
• 3/4 cup oats, quick or old fashioned, uncooked
• 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
• 1/8 teaspoon salt, optional
• 1/2 cup margarine or butter, melted
• 1 tablespoon water
• 1 teaspoon vanilla

Filling:
• 1 carton (8 ounces) sour cream, light or regular
• 2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
• 1/4 cup flour
• 4 egg whites or 2 eggs, slightly beaten
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• 4 cups peeled, thinly sliced apples

Topping:
• 1/4 cup oats, quick or old fashioned, uncooked
• 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
• 1/4 cup flour
• 1/4 cup margarine or butter

Instructions:

To make crust:

1. Preheat oven to 375 F.

2. Combine flour, oats, brown sugar and salt. Add margarine, water and vanilla; mix well.

3. Press firmly onto bottom and sides of 9-inch glass pie plate, forming 1/4-inch rim around edge.

4. Bake 12 to15 minutes, or until light golden brown. Cool.

To make filling:

1. Combine sour cream, brown sugar, flour, eggs, cinnamon and nutmeg; toss with apples.

2. Arrange in crust.

To make topping:

1. Combine oats, sugar and flour; cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

2. Sprinkle over filling.

3. Bake 50 to 60 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

4. Serve warm or chilled; refrigerate leftovers.
