We always have homemade bread at our house. Mostly, I make whole-wheat bread and use a bit of a variation of the recipe that came with my Bosch mixer. Sometimes, only my homemade white bread recipe will do, especially when making grilled cheese sandwiches with fresh tomato soup!

Here’s that magical homemade white bread recipe, which appeared in Judy Laquidara's GRIT Blog post, "Homemade Bread Recipe for Beginners and Seasoned Bakers Alike."
2⁄3 cup white sugar
2 cups warm water
11⁄2 tablespoons dry yeast
11⁄2 teaspoons salt
1⁄4 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
6 cups flour
In large bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Stir in yeast and let sit for 5 minutes.
Mix salt and oil into yeast. Add flour, 1 cup at a time. Knead dough on lightly floured surface until smooth. Place in well-oiled bowl and turn dough to coat. Cover loosely with oiled plastic wrap. Allow to rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Punch dough down. Knead for a few minutes, then divide in half. Shape into two loaves and place in two well-oiled 9-by-5-inch loaf pans. Let rise for 30 minutes, or until dough has risen 1 inch above sides of pan.
Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
