The 23rd Conservation Priority List has been released by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. Used as a gauge to evaluate the level of endangerment of various U.S. breeds, the 2012 conservation list includes 189 livestock and poultry breeds. Of that number, 61 rare breeds are listed as critical.
Many people do not realize that domesticated breeds, such as the American Chinchilla rabbit, can be endangered, often critically. This animal conservation list can be found on the ALBC’s website.
