Melissa Brooks Senesac
The Vermont Homesteader
By Melissa Brooks Senesac
February of 2009, Melissa and her husband, Kyle, bought their first home located on a few acres in Johnson, Vermont. Both born and raised in Vermont, they have a passion for the state and what it has to offer. In response to CAFOs and GMOs they’ve started raising their own food at their farm- everything from chickens to dairy goats, pigs to bees, and of course gardening. Neither grew up on a farm but they learn a lot as they go.
They’re slowly updating their 1850’s farmhouse while steadily working towards a healthy, meaningful, self-sufficient life together. The blog details their homesteading woes and successes along with some learned tips and tricks along the way. You’ll also hear about local offerings such as award-winning cheeses and wine, localvore restaurants, off-the-grid farms, and year-round farmers markets.
