Heather, all good reasons to have chickens. I have wild turkey's that will scratch around in my raised beds looking for bugs and seeds. They haven't bothered but only one vegetable. That was the sweet corn. They would scratch the seeds out of the ground and nip at the corn sprouts until they reached a height of about two feet at which time they passed the baton to the raccoons and squirrels to wait for the tender sweet corn to mature.
