When was the last time you tasted a really fresh egg? Most commercially produced eggs spend time in storage and become stale. There’s a big difference, too, between poultry raised commercially and raised at home. Commercial eating birds live out their brief spans in totally artificial surroundings, but home-grown chickens can result in better flavor and firmer texture.

With the help of this e-handbook, you can have eggs and poultry with a flavor — and at a cost — to be found in no supermarket. Chapters include:

  • Chicken Breeds
  • Brooding and Early Care
  • Henhouse Furniture
  • Feeders
  • Producing Your Own Feed

A handy reference for anyone who wants to raise chickens for meat and eggs. 30 pages.

This is a solid, practical, everything-you-need-to-know guide to keeping chickens for people who are as interested in them as pets as they are in eggs and other poultry produce. It reveals how, as well as being useful, chickens are interesting and colourful characters that can enliven any garden. They become very tame and make good companions. It includes chapters on using feathers and eggs in art and craft projects, as well as delicious egg recipes. It fuses contemporary design, imaginative and appealing images and lively, authoritative text to ensure the widest possible interest.

About the Authors: Jeremy Hobson is a freelance writer living in France. His interests in chickens and bantams began as a result of his grandfather's own obsession; Jeremy went on to win several major poultry prizes by the age of 15, and has kept many breeds during the ensuing 40 years. He contributes regularly to country magazines and has written numerous books. Aside from poultry keeping, Jeremy's interests include country sports, farming and gardening.

Celia Lewis is an award winning artist, having studied drawing in Florence, and has held various exhibitions around her home in England. Celia is also a glass engraver, with a particular emphasis on natural objects such as leaves and feathers. She finds inspiration in her own garden, where she keeps chickens and guinea fowl, and in the surrounding countryside.
