A native Kansan, Jean grew up in a small town in the north-central part of the state, learning early that she is most definitely a child of the High Plains. She adores the wide open spaces, seeing for miles over the rolling prairie – although she's discovered in the last few years that time on an ocean is as much of a balm to her spirit as a visit to the wide-open prairie.

Jean's education includes degrees from Fort Hays State University and Kansas State University, and has worked for both universities and three daily newspapers.

A winding road of career choices brought Jean to GRIT 11 years ago, and it's been a good fit. She contributes the Recipe Box, Grit Gazette and Grit eNews, an electronic newsletter.  Jean is also part of the editing/writing team for each GRIT issue.
