According to a recent post on the website of The Washington Post, there are now 6,132 farmers’ markets in the United States, a 16 percent increase over the 2009 number recorded in the National Farmers Market Directory.

At American Farmland Trust, a contest puts the spotlight on farmers’ markets across the country. Four categories of market size are open for voting in the Favorite Farmers Markets contest. The top 20 in each category are listed on the AFT website and voting ends at midnight on August 31.
