The delicious, fun whoopie pie consists of two round cookie-like cakes with a fluffy filling sandwiched between them. They are considered a Pennsylvania Amish tradition, but the whoopie pie’s popularity has picked up steam throughout the United States, and they are sold all over.

According to WhatsCookingAmerica.net, the sweet treat got its name because they were originally made from leftover batter, and when children found these treats in their lunch bags, they’d shout, “Whoopie!”

Helen Thompson, Bucyrus, Ohio, wrote in requesting recipes for Whoopie Pie, with different flavors if possible.A traditional treat in New England and a well-loved comfort food in Maine, the whoopie pie is usually chocolate, but other variations abound.
