Orange Biscuits Recipe
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons grated orange peel
2 cups sifted enriched flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 to 4 tablespoons lard
3/4 cup milk
Butter, melted
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Combine 1/4 cup butter, orange juice, 1/2 cup sugar and orange peel; cook 2 minutes. Pour into greased 9-cup muffin tin.
Sift flour, baking powder, salt; cut in lard. Add milk; stir until dough follows fork. Knead 15 seconds; roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
Brush with melted butter; sprinkle with 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll as for jelly roll. Cut 1-inch slices; place cut side down over orange mixture in muffin tin. Bake in very hot oven (450°F) for 20 to 25 minutes. Yields 9 biscuits.
