Breakfast Biscuits Recipe With Cinnamon
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup wheat bran
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, margarine or shortening
2/3 cup milk
1/2 cup mixed dried fruit bits
1/2 cup sifted confectioner’s sugar
2 to 3 tablespoons orange juice, milk or water
Heat oven to 400°F.
Combine flour, bran, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Cut in butter. Make well in center of dry mixture. Add milk and fruit bits; stir just until moistened.
Turn dough out onto floured surface. Quickly knead dough 10 to 12 strokes, or until nearly smooth. Pat or lightly roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut dough with floured 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.
Place biscuits 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden. Remove biscuits from baking sheet and cool slightly on wire rack.
Meanwhile, stir together confectioner’s sugar and enough orange juice to make icing easy to drizzle. Drizzle icing over biscuits; serve warm. Yields 12 biscuits.
