“Close to the earth” refers to how Susan was raised in Alaska – commercial salmon fishing, flying in small planes to hunting camp, and learning to drive in a Coot. Now, she and her husband live on seven acres in Southcentral Alaska. Though they’re only 20 miles from downtown Anchorage, they’re worlds away in how they strive to live their lives.
