Take a peek at the ways to celebrate forests, and the people who love them, with the first Forest Guild Photo Contest. Designed to highlight the talent of the guild’s members and show off places and people that make their work possible, the contest has five categories: People in the Forest; Working in the Forest; Wildlife; Forests (trees, streams, fires, blowdowns, drought, etc.,); and Landscapes. The contest closes February 28th.

The winners will be highlighted on the guild's website and in future guild publications.

According to the group's website, the guild is a professional organization of forest stewards and affiliates who are passionate about sustaining and restoring the integrity of forests while meeting the needs of the communities that rely on them. Members’ work provides tangible examples of “excellent forestry” – forestry that is ecologically, economically and socially responsible.

The common bond of guild members is a passion for forests and land stewardship. While the contest is for guild members only, it’s easy to join. Go to the website and click on Membership/Join Us. When submitting photos, please include the category for which the photo is to be considered, the photographer’s name as it needs to appear in a photo attribution, a photo caption of 10 words or less, the location (county or town and state) where the photo was taken, and any photo details (species, silvicultural systems, names of people in the photo, event, etc). Photos must be digital and should be at least 1MB in file size.

By submitting a photo, the photographer agrees to allow the Forest Guild to use the photos in Forest Guild publications with acknowledgment and without consultation. E-mail photos to Alexander Evans at zander@forestguild.org for large (over 5MB); for multiple files, the guild recommends using a site such as www.YouSendIt.com.
