The Northern Plains Sustainable Agriculture Society will hold its 30th Anniversary and 2009 Winter Conference February 13-14 at the Crossroads Hotel in Huron, South Dakota. The keynote speaker for the event, Karl Kupers, owner and manager of Shepherd’s Grain, will outline the many steps it takes to “Market Sustainability.” Julie Garreau, executive director of the Cheyenne River Youth Project in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, will explain what the project is all about and why working with youth is so important.

An outstanding line-up of presenters will be on hand for more than 15 informative workshops. Workshops included are: Integrated Pest Management, Poultry Panel, Canning, Drying and Preserving, Animal and Soil Health, Local Foods, Meat Goat Production, Weed Management, Farm Breeder’s Club and SARE Farmer Rancher Grant and Youth recipient workshops. For the youth attending the conference, there will be workshops geared for the younger generation. A variety of exhibitors will set up through out the conference, and organic and local foods will be served at the event.
