The marigold is one of the most popular annuals found in North American gardens, according the NGB’s fact sheet. Since the 1920s, marigold breeding has developed hundreds of new varieties, and marigold seeds are large, easy to handle and reliable germinators (in warm, moist soil).

Squash was one of the first crops grown in the New World, and they are easy for the beginning gardener to grow, are highly nutritious and are commonly designated as summer or winter squash.
